TOP QUALITY AUDIO AND VIDEO --------------------------- The BR-8600U is a top performer in every sense of the word. Since editing involves the re-recording of signals, it is imperative that the video and audio processing systems be of the highest quality. The BR-8600U has the following features which accomplish this: * New video signal processing circuit which improves VHS picture quality. * Dubbing feature which allows the color processing circuits to be by-passed during the dubbing procedure thereby improving the quality of the transfer. * Dolby-B Noise reduction. Tape hiss is reduced by this process and the audio signal to noise ratio is improved. * Stable still and slo-mo playback are accomplished by use of two rotary heads. FULL FUNCTION EDITOR -------------------- The BR-8600U is capable of both INSERT and ASSEMBLE edits. * Insert edits. The new video and/or audio material is re-recorded using existing control track. In order to do this in the video mode, the BR-8600 incorporates two flying (rotary) erase heads. * Assemble edits. Like ordinary recording, new control track, audio, and video tracks are laid down simultaneously. These edits can be performed accurately using the PREROLL function. A framing servo is provided to reduce or eliminate flagging or tearing at the edit point. The blanking switcher, in conjunction with the rotary erase heads, makes possible edits with virtually no distortion at the edit point. Audio and video edits can be made independently. HEAVY-DUTY DESIGN ----------------- Direct drive motors are used extensively: * Direct Drive Capstan for precise control of tape movement. * Direct Drive Head Drum for consistent, stable picture. * Direct Drive Reel Servos for smooth, electronic tension control. The front load tape housing and tape eject mechanism are newly designed for maximum reliability. All critical components are mounted upon a die-cast aluminum chassis. Plug-in circuit boards are used for ease of maintenance. EASE OF OPERATION ----------------- From an operational standpoint, the BR-8600U is a very well thoughtout deck. Variable speed tape search (0-10X FWD & REV) is accomplished by turning a dial on the control panel. Tape time in minutes and seconds is displayed on the digital counter. Several "user friendly" functions are also provided: * Insert edits are automatically terminated if control track is not present. * Color coded control labels. * Microprocessor based warning system to detect tape path and other transport problems. * Front load space saving design. The BR-8600U effectively allows the operator to set an edit-in and an edit-out point without the use of a controller.
