Ultra Rare WARREN ZEVON "Sentimental Hygiene"
1987 VIRGIN RECORDS PROMOTIONAL VHS Videotape
Warren Zevon (perhaps best known for his hit single "Werewolves Of London") was born in Chicago, Illinois on
January 24, 1947, the son of Beverly Cope (née Simmons) and William Zevon. His father was a Jewish immigrant from the Ukraine, whose original surname was Zivotofsky. William Zevon worked as a bookie who handled volume bets and dice games for the notorious Los Angeles mobster Mickey Cohen. He worked for years in the Cohen crime family, in which he was known as Stumpy Zevon, and was best man at Cohen's first wedding. Warren Zevon passed away on September 7, 2003.
Sentimental Hygiene is the sixth studio album by rock singer-songwriter Warren Zevon and his first "sober" one. The album was released on August 29, 1987, by Virgin Records. The release of Sentimental Hygiene marked the first studio album for Zevon in five years.
The release of Sentimental Hygiene marked the first studio album for Zevon in five years. It produced the single "Reconsider Me", as well as the dance single "Leave My Monkey Alone". The band on the album includes guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills and drummer Bill Berry (all of R.E.M.), who also recorded an album of covers with Zevon under the name Hindu Love Gods at this time. The single version of "Leave My Monkey Alone" was extended to 10:34 minutes and included a remix by the Latin Rascals (Albert Cabrera and Tony Moran) and the non-album track, "Nocturne".
"Even a Dog Can Shake Hands" was used as the opening theme music for the critically acclaimed short-lived 1999 Fox Network comedy series "Action", starring Jay Mohr
    as a sleazy Hollywood executive
. The song was co-written by Buck, Berry and Mills. Michael Stipe, lead singer of R.E.M., appears on the song "Bad Karma". The album also features contributions by Bob Dylan, playing harmonica on “The Factory” and Neil Young playing lead guitar on “Sentimental Hygiene”.
    This videotape is VHS format.
From my personal collection of hundreds of videotapes. I worked as a record producer in Los Angeles in the 1980s and received this promotional video in 1987. I don't think I ever played it and don't have a clue what's on it. I don't have a VCR so I can't see what's on it now. I don't think it's a music video for the song "Sentimental Hygiene" since that was not released as a single. It might feature music videos for the two singles from this album or it might be an early EPK (Electronic Press Kit) but I just don't know... so this is a "pot luck" videotape for the hardcore Warren Zevon collector. It's contents are a mystery to me and it is definitely VERY RARE.
The videotape is in literally BRAND NEW condition.
